Esgic is a prescription drug used to relieve tension headaches. It contains a combination of analgesics, barbiturates, and stimulants.

Proper Usage

Take exactly as directed. Taking Esgic at higher doses, more often, or for a longer period that prescribed may cause dependence.

Proper Storage

Store at room temperature, away from sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Warnings

Esgic may cause drowsiness, especially when combined with other drowsiness-inducing substances, including alcohol. Avoid alcohol consumption while using Esgic, and do not perform any potentially dangerous activities that require alertness (such as driving and operating machinery) until you know how Esgic affects you. Pain medications work best if they are used as soon as possible after the appearance of the first signs of pain Esgic may decrease the effectiveness of birth-control pills. To prevent pregnancy, use an additional method of birth control while taking Esgic. If you are or plan to become pregnant, consult your doctor about the risks of using Esgic during pregnancy. Esgic passes into breast milk and may harm the nursing infant. Do not breastfeed while taking Esgic.

Side Effects

Possble side effects of using Esgic are drowsiness, dizziness, and nausea. If you experience any of these and they persist or are particularly bothersome, consult a doctor. If you experience any other side effect, consult your doctor.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Wait the prescribed amount of time before taking your next dose. Avoid taking a double dose.

Other drug Interactions

Do not take esgic if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days. Esgic contains acetaminophen, which may increase the effects of other drowsiness-inducing drugs such as antidepressants, alcohol, antihistamines, and sedatives, causing heavy sedation. Too much acetaminophen may be dangerous. If you are taking other drugs that contain acetaminophen, consult your doctor about the risks of using Esgic. Tell your doctor about all medicines that you are taking.
