Ionamin (a brand name of the drug phentermine) is an appetite suppressant, used along with an overall diet and excersize program in order to treat obesity and reduce weight.

Side effects of Ionamin are typically mild and include dry mouth, sleeplessness, irritability, stomach upset or constipation. If the symptoms persist or become bothersome, consult a doctor.

Ionamin - Warnings

Before using Ionamin, tell your doctor your complete medical history, and especially whether you have high blood pressure, an over-active thyroid, glaucoma, diabetes or any emotional problems. Tell your doctor if you might be pregnant or if you are or intend to start breastfeeding. Limit alcohol use during treatment with Ionamin; use of alcohol may increase unwanted side effects of dizziness. This drug is not recommended for use in children.

Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Ionamin - Proper Usage

Ionamin is taken on an empty stomach, usually once a day, about 30-60 minutes before breakfast. The tablet may be broken or cut in half, but not crushed or chewed. Ionamin may cause sleeplessness. Avoid taking a dose late in the day. Take Ionamin exactly as it is prescribed for you. Do not take it more often or longer than directed.

Ionamin - Missed Dosge

If you miss a dose of Ionamin, skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose as usual.

Ionamin - Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription drugs you may be using. Of special interest are high blood pressure medicine or MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) or any other weight loss medicine. Avoid "stimulant" drugs that may increase your heart rate or blood pressure, such as decongestants (commonly found in over-the-counter cough and cold medicine) or caffeine.
