Bontil is an appetite suppressant, to be used in an overall weight-loss program along with diet and exercise for the short-term management of obesity.

Proper Usage

Use exactly as directed. Take about 30-60 minutes before meals. Take the last dose of the day at least 4 hours before bedtime. For your safety, do not take higher doses of Bontril or take it for longer than directed.

Store in a dry, cool place, away from the reach of children.

Warnings

Use of Bontril is not recommended if you have or have had heart conditions, high blood pressure, or hyperthyroidism. Tell your doctor about any allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Keep all appontments to the doctor or to laboratory tests while using Bontril; for your safety, it is essential that your condition be monitored. Before you have any medical or dental procedure, inform the staff that you are taking Bontril. Bontril may cause drowsiness. Do not perform any dangerous activities that require alertness until you know how Bontril affects you. Women who plan on becoming pregnant should consult a doctor about the risks of using Bontral during pregnancy. Women who breastfeed or plan to start breastfeeding should not use Bontril, as the medication may pass into breast-milk. If overdose is suspected, seek emergency medical help.

Side Effects

Possible side effects of Bontril include restlessness, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, or dry mouth. Consult a doctor if you experience any effects that persist or are particularly bothersome. If you experience other side effects, consult a doctor.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Bontril, take it as soon as possible; however, if it is later than 4 p.m., just skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Avoid taking a double dose.

Other drug Interactions

Some medications and medical conditions may interact with Bontril. Before starting Bontril treatment, inform your doctor about your complete medical history as well as any drugs you may be taking, including over-the-counter and natural/herbal products. Do not use Bontril if you are also taking guanadrel, guanethidine, furazolidone, or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
